Antique Fireplace Insert with Tiled Arched Opening | Steele & Wood Tiles

A superb late 19th century cast iron fireplace insert with a fully tiled arch, featuring an exceptionally decorative set of original tiles by Steele & Wood of Stoke-upon-Trent.

.Particularly special is the restoration of the tiles. Historic cracks and losses have been sensitively repaired and highlighted withgold leaf, in the spirit of the Japanese Kintsugi tradition. Rather than attempting to disguise their age, the gold celebrates the repairs and forms part of the tiles' continuing history, creating a beautiful and entirely individual finish.

The tiles are set within a fully arched frame.

A wonderfully unusual antique fireplace, combining original Victorian craftsmanship with a sympathetic contemporary approach to conservation.
