This spectacular original 18th Century fireplace surround has been intricately carved from English stone.
In its glorious unrestored state, the Palladian chimneypiece is an impressive example of 18th Century design and craftsmanship.
The fireplace has richly formed, curved jambs with acanthus leaves and tendrils and a barrel-shaped frieze that is adorned with carved garlands of oak leaves and acorns with a central ribbon cross, representing peace, prosperity and strength. The whole piece rests on raised rectangular foot blocks.
