Reclaimed Antique Concrete Fireplace Surround with Original Minton Tiles, Late 19th Century
A superb and very rare example of Victorian design, this reclaimed fireplace surround is crafted from smooth reconstituted stone and inset with original Minton tiles. The design is unlike anything we have seen over our many years in architectural reclamation.
Tile-fronted jambs and frieze, Minton, are celebrated for their intricate geometric and foliate motifs. These specimens display a soft, muted palette of sage and cream.
Georgian influence can be seen in the surround's form, but with an industrial, almost Brutalist delivery, a design movement that came over half a century later.
